Barn at Bloomsbury Farm

Restless to travel? Us too. Escape to the country for a weekend without spending all day in the car. Here are 3 farm getaways we love.  They’re bucolic, out of the way, and give you a first-hand look of waking up (and going to sleep) on a farm (without the work). They also help the owners share their farm and livelihood with others.

Bloomsbury Farms, Smyrna
30-year-old Lauren Palmer has grown Bloomsbury Farms into one of the preeminent organic farms in middle Tennessee. With farm dinners, annual bonfires, and Friday night farm markets, Lauren has made Bloomsbury farms the center of life and community in Smyrna. The Loft at Bloomsbury opened in 2018 and is a place for escape. Like everything Lauren does, it’s warm and welcoming and perfectly curated. Located on over 400 acres of rolling farmland, the custom-designed loft is 45 minutes from Nashville, whilst providing a magical retreat for rest, romance, and relaxation.

The accommodations are outfitted with a full kitchen, bathroom, walk-in shower, laundry room, and one bedroom with a king bed and lux linen sheets. The bedroom is very private with a gorgeous, large window looking out over the farm. With one of the best CSA programs in town, you can even order a basket of fresh produce to cook while you’re there. Meander the property and check out the farmers market on Friday nights, or settle into an Adirondack chair in front of the fire.

By Faith Farm, Joelton
A stone’s throw from downtown Nashville, this gorgeous barn loft apartment is located on the pastoral By Faith Farm. It was built by owners, Lori and Jim Birckhead when they acquired the farm in 2011. As the name infers, By Faith Farm is on a mission to feed local families facing hunger. As a result, all food grown on the farm is donated to Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee, as well as proceeds from guests’ stays.

With over 96 acres of stunning farmland, cattle pastures, ponds, and even a small waterfall, you can meander the property and for most of the year, pick flowers in their wildflower You Pick Garden. Enjoy this calming retreat while knowing your stay is helping to give nutritious food to those in need. Add to that, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, beautiful barn-wood details, and modern amenities and this a perfect farm stay for all.

No. 9 Farm, Ashland City
Just 25 minutes from downtown Nashville, a completely restored 1949 Spartan Mansion sits above the farm in a very private, wooded section of No.9 Farms in Ashland City. Located on over 40 acres, the trailer is tucked away under a pavilion with a tantalizing outdoor bath house, kitchen, covered deck, and fire pit.

Designed by the farm’s owner and local musician, Brian Oaks, this Spartan “Blueberry” trailer is the ultimate vintage camper for travelers looking for a little luxury and a whole lot of whimsy in the heart of middle Tennessee.

Inside the trailer, the galley-style kitchen is fully loaded with a coffee maker, cocktail set, toaster oven, and all kitchen tools you’ll need during your stay. On the main deck, guests will find a modernized outdoor kitchen that has sizable prep space, gas grill, refrigerator with filtered water, stainless steel sink, and a dining table. You can also buy items off their website such as eggs, produce, blended salts, or No. 9 Farms organic French Roast coffee and organic herbal teas.

Brian’s wife Stephanie is the farmer in the family and her pristine gardens are something to see. Meander among the rows identifying herbs and produce, visit the chickens, and indulge in an immense sense of calm and relaxation.
