Fresh u-pick peaches at Forgies Fruit Farm in Lewsiburg, TN.

Tennessee isn't known for peaches. In fact we're inundated with peaches from elsewhere--Georgia (aka The Peach Truck), South Carolina, the choice of produce stands around town. Occasionally we get a glimpse of an Alabama peach, which I'm especially partial too after living in Birmingham for 15 years. (Chilton County, in particular). But Tennessee peaches, almost never. So when we heard about Forgies Fruit Farm we had to get ourselves there fast before the peaches ran out. It's a straight shot down 65 South for about 45 minutes, then about 10 minutes into the hills to the orchard. It's stunningly beautiful. Compared to blueberries, it doesn't take long to pick a basket of peaches, especially when they're as big as Forgies were--"Lorings" the size of soft balls. Here are 5 of our favorite recipes using peaches, regardless of the state they hail from.
