As the timeless sounds of songs about brown-eyed girls and someone named Valerie travel effortlessly across the farm, a bonfire crackles and cows make their way to the pastures to sleep. Parents enjoy cold beverages on blankets in the grass while children pet baby goats and make new friends.

Less than an hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Music City sits Noble Springs Dairy in Franklin, Tennessee. The picturesque goat farm is home to 150 dairy goats and a fun event known as “Goats and Guitars.” Once a month from April to October, the farm welcomes those hoping to experience Nashville’s namesake sound without the chaos of busy city streets. It’s a musical escape to the countryside of Middle Tennessee with tastes, smells and sounds of fresh air.

When asked what inspired the unique agritourism event, farm owner Dustin Noble shared, “Last year we were thinking of other things we could do to generate some income and supplement the farm, and so we decided to do this.” Additionally, “Being in the Greater Nashville area, we pretty much always have employees who are musicians. Farm employee and musician Garrett Hendricks plays a key role in the production of the event. Not only does the Northwest Americana–inspired artist often perform himself, he also recruits and schedules fellow Nashville performers to share their talents at the farm.

“We have a lot of people that come out every month and bring their family,” said Dustin. “The kids become friends with our kids and learn about living on a farm at the same time.”

Refreshing drinks aren’t the only offerings at this family-friendly event. Charcuterie boxes featuring the farm’s delicious goat cheeses and creamy fudge are also available. Seasonal flavors like pimento cheese, garlic, pumpkin spice and strawberries pair beautifully with delicious crackers, pretzels, grapes and olives. It’s hard to enjoy a box without being inspired to take home the farm’s offerings (strawberry chèvre and chocolate fudge might have made the journey to Nashville with me).

The fun on the farm doesn’t stop with “Goats and Guitars.” The farm also makes trips to the local farmers market, hosts private tours and events and even invites visitors to learn about their farmstead creamery and meet their dairy goats. With Dustin and wife Justyne’s more than 40 combined years of experience in caring for these sweet creatures, there’s a lot to learn.

Dustin shared, “We still do the Franklin farmers market every week, so we make seasonal cheeses to take. We’re open every Saturday, usually from late March through November, for people to come out and see baby goats and take educational tours of the farm.”

If you are looking for an experience that can’t be found on the pavement-clad streets of the city, the farm at Noble Springs Dairy is ready and waiting. Bahhhhh.
