Brilliance at the Franklin Farmers Market
One of the most bustling markets in town, the Franklin Farmers Market operates year round, rain or shine. But if you're going to go, go early. With the explosive growth of Nasvhille and Franklin, this farmer's market is one of the busiest and best.
Located in the parking lot of the Factory, a stone's throw from downtown Franklin, it hosts a number of food trucks--Ellie's Old Fashioned Doughnuts, with the best doughnuts in town, along with some of the best farmers products and a number of unique artisan products, including soaps, cutting boards, bird houses, and t-shirts. Some of our favorite farmers are there, such as Tavalin Tails with their grass fed meats, Delvin Farms with their awesome produce (including squash bossoms last time we were there) and lovely Lauren of Bloomsbury Farms. Another favorite is Tom the Furtniture Guy, who makes awesome hand painted signs from old barn wood, including one for Edible Nashville. Although don't miss the home made Ezekial Bread from Jones Mill Farm and Commercial Kitchen, one of the only places in town we've found it. They hand grind the grains that go into it and sell out fast.
The market takes place every Saturday from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. Created in 2002, it has become a benchmark in sustainable farming, becoming Tennesse's first producer-only farmers market. While offering a large variety of vegetables, fruits, meat and other products, the Franklin Farmers' Market also enables you to get directly in touch with your local farmers and artisans. These interactions strengthen local economy while increasing awareness about healthy and fresh food. And who better to advice and guide you through the different stalls than those who fill them in ? Whether you're wondering about in-season fruits and vegetables or which tomatoes to choose for your summer tomato sauce, they have a solution.
After wandering around the market's alleys, make sure to pop into Saffire, inside the Factory. Let yourself be tempted by their brunch menu featuring oysters, salads and omelets. For the coffe-lovers, Honest Coffee Roasters will tickle your taste buds with their ethically sourced coffee selection. If you are more into tea, you should still take a look at their impressive coffee roaster at the back of the shop.
The Franklin Farmers Market organizes several events throughout the year that will delight all the family. Check their calendar to make the most of your next visit. We dare you to come back home empty-handed !
