The Green Curry at Deg Thai Street Food on Nolensville

Degthai, Nolensville Pike

We finally made it to this auspicious restaurant on Nolensville Pike that has received rave reviews. Indeed, the curry was flavorful, the fried rice complete with big strips of chicken, but the sleeper was the crispy tofu with a tart cucumber salad. Lapped it up.

Ethels Tabernacle, Dickerson Pike

This newly opened “dive” bar is just the ticket for a no frills, laid-back night with a few beers, maybe some karaoke and pool. Look for the vintage car parked out front, and say hi to the owners’ dog.

Joe Muer Seafood, The Gulch

Have a special occasion? This throwback restaurant that hails from Detroit will have you ensconced in the ‘50s with red banquettes, white tablecloths, lamplit tables, servers in tuxes and great service. Fish is filleted tableside and servings are ample. But save room for dessert, which is rolled down“ à la cart”
for all to see.

Bakehouse, Manchester

We were blown away by the cookies made by this small-batch bakery. The Oat + Toasted Pecan and Earl Grey sugar cookies were phenomenal. Follow owner and baker Brianne on Instagram.

LUNCH, Sewanee

In 2021, we discovered Chef Mallory Grimm at the East Nashville Farmers Market and were charmed by her tarts and quiches. In 2022 she moved to Sewanee and opened LUNCH, a small café that focuses on local ingredients, togetherness and community. Her quiche is phenomenal, and the farro salad and bean soup too.

Fait la Force Brewing, Wedgewood Houston

Outfitted with a few velvet couches and vintage wallpaper, this brewery gives off date night vibes versus that of a sports bar. You can order food from the adjacent Il Forno, but it was packed on the Friday we visited, so we just enjoyed the delicious brews.

The Davis General, Franklin

Just a mile past Leiper’s Fork is this 95-year-old country store. Grandma greets you at the door and her son will make you coffee if you need some. Simple, yes, but the sandwiches are good. Check it out next time you find yourself around Franklin.

Farmers’ Storehouse, Sparta

We happened upon this gem while going through Sparta en route to Cookeville. What a gem. This beautiful organic food co-op and flour mill carries whole grains that can be ground on site for baking, local products and in-season produce. The gorgeous café in the back serves coffee and croissants.
