While our coffee shop reconnaissance has been down this past year, here are some of our favorite spots we look forward to visiting again this year.
Headquarters Coffee
A cozy little nook on Charlotte Pike that is literally housed in a converted alley between buidings. Headquarters serves up coffee and espresso options for the West side, along with tasty treats that are from the prestigious
Dozen Bakery in the Wedgewood Houston neighborhood. They also have an excellent selection of foodie magazines (including Edible), and the local community. "We're really committed to carrying only local vendors, because we believe that doing so creates jobs, revenue, and our neighbors' success." -Louisa Green, proprietor. To find it, drive slow when on Charlotte Pike, and look for thhe life-size Elivs on the sidewalk of the store next door.
Also, make sure to check out the tiny mural in a whole in the brick wall. Adorable.

Cafe Makai
Previously The Jam Coffee House, and now Cafe Makai, this lovely bright spot is a real jewel. Located on the corner of Wedgewood and 12th, it's housed in a quirky strip center. We love the light bright and airy space channeling an island vibe. It's owned by Old School Farm, a farm to table restaurant and event space (and farm) located on Bells Bend, with fantastic food. So it's no surprise that the menu at Cafe Makai is excellent. There's rarely a crowd and plenty of space to work and spread out. They also have a good selection of local products for sale.

8th & Roast
We've always been partial to the original location on 8th avenue, but now gravitate more to the the bight, airy and larger location on Charlotte Avenue. Plenty of room to spread out and work. The breakfast offerings, while not extensive are good and the coffee some of the best in town. Best yet, they have sparkling water on tap. Hooray.

Moonshot Coffee
This new coffee shop is located on the bottom floor of the TownePlace Suites by Marriott in the Capital District, close to Germantown. We love this cozy fun place that has some of the best baristas in town. IWhen your coffee is served by a kid with a coffee cup tatoo, you know it's going to be a good cuppa. t's small so best for a freinds meet up vs setting up shop to work.

OSA Coffee
What originally started as 8th & Roast, OSA was started by woman coffee roaster, Lesa Wood and partner Jack Egan. Lesa has moved on to do Sky Bear Coffee, and Jack has opened two OSA outposts, one in Edgehill which is an adorable walk-up window and the other a new indoor-outdoor space on Gallatin in East Nashville. It's damn fine coffee. Make sure to take home a bag, which probably was roasted that morning or the day before.

Red Byrd
This is an adorable walk up coffee shop operated out of a tiny home in Leipers Fork. If you're drving to or through Leipers Fork, you can't miss it on Old Hillsboro Road. Matched in the adorable category though are owners Kyle Brooks and Sadie Shaw-Brooks, musicians who believe in poetry, kindness and music.

Fido
One of the few remaining local spots in Hillsboro Village, Fido is a tradition and one of the best spots in town. The food has always been fantastic, although it's gone through some iterations over the past couple years. The specialty drinks are interesting and delicious. Owner Bob Bernstein also own Bongo Java Coffee Roasters, one of the original coffee roasters in town. It tends to be crowded by professionals as well as Vanderbilt students.
