Strawberries are In at Kelly's Berry Farm!
No Pandemic can keep strawberries down, or the Kelly brothers. They've had their u-pick open for over a week and are going strong. So if you're going stir crazy, head out to Castalian Springs for some sunshine and juicy berries. Picking is from 7am -6pm every day. Until they last that is.
On Highway 231, just north of Lebanon after crossing the Cumberland River, is Kelly’s Berry Farm. Since 1978, Jon and Patrick Kelly have operated Kelly’s Berry Farm right there on the bank of the river as you go from Wilson into Trousdale county. The brothers started out growing blueberries and strawberries nearly four decades ago on 70 acres. Because of their charm, hard work, beautiful fruit and lovely location, they have customers as loyal as any you will find—and I’m one of them. They have purposefully and methodically expanded to be a complete fruit farm with the addition of blackberries, raspberries and peaches. If Mother Nature cooperates, the farm opens in April and continues the natural ripening transition from one crop to the next, all the way through September. Strawberries give way to blueberries which usher in blackberries and finally peaches.
You can leisurely pick your own fruit or purchase it already harvested and ready to enjoy. And don’t think of leaving without grabbing a jar of their blueberry jam. It is the best I have ever had, and it quickly put an end to my own blueberry jam chore!
