Luxury at Denim and Yolan at The Joseph
Going downtown is not a happy thought for most Nashvillians at the moment. But a trip to the luxurious and welcoming Joseph Hotel, on Korean Veterans Blvd was just the happy evening we needed. The Joseph is a new Luxury Collection Hotel that opened in August and is ready for guests. Before Prosecco and oysters even arrived at Demin, the rooftop bar, we wandered over to the open fire set-up to see what was cooking. There, the chef was melting a large teardrop of the Southern Italian cheese, caciocavallo, over the open fire and slathering it on sourdough bread with a piece of grilled rib-eye. Um. Yeah. This was followed by a mezcal drink garnished with a pop-rock salsa for a snap, crackle Rice Krispie effect. Fun and delicious. The open air rooftop is complete with cozy cabanas, a living green wall and a fantastic view of the city, taking you above it all for a bit.
Next was Yolan, the luxury hotel's signature Italian restaurant run by award-winning chef Tony Mantuano and wife Cathy Mantuano, wine and hospitality expert. The Chicago couple, of the highly acclaimed Spiaggia, have set up residence in Nashville down the street from the hotel and couldn't be happier. Refined Italian classics such as Cacio e Pepe, Risotto and Bucatini all’Amatriciana dot the menu along with octopus and swordfish. The desserts are art at it's finest and as good to eat as they are to look at. We left with a petite tin of the extra-virgin olive oil (sold at the hotel) and will be using it sparingly for its earthy, fruity flavor.
This is just the place to get away from life for a while. High atop the city relax in the open air cabanas with a warm heater, a cold cocktail and refined food. Wander down to Yolan for pasta or, snuggle into the cushions for a second serving of the caciocavallo and another mezcal. Sante.
This year you can also create a new Thanksgiving tradition with an Italian feast at Yolan.
