Our wine picks for spring from Paul Patel of Corkdorks Wine & Spirits in Nashville.

If you're like us, you're always looking for new, yet reasonably priced, wines. Our go-to wine expert is Paul Patel, owner of Midtown and Green Hills Corkdorks. Tell Paul what you like, what you don't like, and a price range and he will pick a bottle far better than anything you can get at the grocery store or other discount stores for the same price. We've discovered many a great wine from Paul. Here are his spring recommendations.

Drawn from one of the Province's most celebrated terroirs, AIX is created to be the purest possible expression of what a rosé wine can be.

Elena Walch Schiava, $18.99
Bright ruby in colour with a delicate hint of cherry on the nose. On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant due to naturally mild acidity and tannin with a pleasant bitter almond flavor on the finish. An elegant, fruity red wine with good lengths. An interesting wine for Mediterranean and Pasta dishes, as well as antipasti. Serve chilled.

This wine originates from selected Niagara Peninsula vineyards located at varying elevations near the shoreline of Lake Ontario. In these areas, moderating onshore breezes combine with shale and limestone-rich soils to deliver ideal conditions for Riesling, producing a dry, enticing expression of this noble grape defined by its bright citrus character and vibrant acidity.

In order to be a representative of the whole Danube appellation KAMPTAL, vineyards and grapes from the lower part of the valley, as well as grapes from the upper and higher altitude part of the valley are used. The grapes from the lower part bring maturity, whereas grapes from the upper part of the valley brings us the freshness in this wine. The ‘classical’ KAMPTAL wine is low in Alcohol (11.5 – 12.5%) and has a pleasant but not obtrusive aroma and fruit character and therefore is a perfect food companion.

Bodegas Ostatu Blanco Rioja Bianco, $14.99
Primary aromas of flowers and white fruits and subtle herbal nuances. Enveloping and silky, with an intense acidity that increases the aftertaste. Very balanced, fresh, sweet, and with a hint of unctuousness. Great balance of flavors dominated by green apple and lemon, with hints of ripe apricots.
