Caffé Nonna, Sylvan Park

This well-established Italian restaurant in Sylvan Park just got better. We have always loved the neighborhood feel and reliable dishes, but new chef James Kelsey has injected some real pizzazz into the menu with unique layered flavors and ingredients. Try the dried tomato pasta and the new cheese. Both are a revelation.

The Chef & I, The Gulch

This comfy restaurant focuses on cooking classes and chef’s table dining. There are two kitchens you can cozy up to and watch the action. We particularly liked the chef’s booth in the kitchen downstairs where most of the action happens.

Ophelia’s Pizza + Bar, Downtown

We love this cozy downtown eatery reminiscent of an Italian trattoria. Get the pizza and the shrimp scampi.

Roy’s Meat Service, East Nashville

If you want to be called sweetie and honey while you decide if you should order the meatloaf (Jeff’s mother’s recipe) or the 1⁄2 smoked chicken, or sides like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and green beans, then this meat and three is your place. It’s a butcher, meat store, grocery store, restaurant and gathering place. All with the nicest people and a great beer selection taboot.

What’s New & Happening Around Town

We’re hearing great buzz about these new-ish places that we can’t wait to try.

  • SS Gai, in the Wash on Gallatin Pike
    This Thai chicken shop serves their own take on gai yang and gai tod — two Thai chicken dishes — alongside fresh veggies, sticky rice, seasonal sides and house-made beverages.

 

  • Kisser, East Nashville
    It is an homage to the Japanese kissaten, a traditional neighborhood café where locals gather to hang out, eat and drink. Run by two veteran chefs, this restaurant in East Nashville focuses on sushi, seafood and Asian noodles.

 

  • Pinky Ring Pizza, Madison
    We have friends who are gluten-free and go here anyway, just because the pizza and (we understand the crust) is so good and totally worth it.
