That's a Wrap on our Taste of Tennessee Dinner at the State Fair!
Celebrating the bounty of Tennessee couldn't have been more apropriate than at the iconic event that also celebrates Tennesseee, the state fair. The Wilson County/ TN State Fair to be exact. Like state fairs all over the country, the Tennessee state fair features all manner of husbandry, contests for everything from the best tobacco to the prettiest roses to the hardiest squash to the loudest rooster. Baking contests include pecan pie, nana pudding and apple pie. You can wrangle a pig, milk a cow or check out the birthing pens. Of course there are the rides, monster trucks and cowboy reinactments, but agriculture and farming are the heartbeat of the state fair. So it was only fitting that our dinner featured locally raised pork and chicken, carrots, radishes, potatoes, corn, grits, as well as local cheese, nuts, blackberries and pickled vegetables. All served by volunteers from the FFA, (Future Farmers of America) the Junior Fair Board, and Pick Tn. Tennessee Peach Tea and Sparkling Mint Lemonade quenched thirsts during the hot humid August night that was full of laughter, new friends and gratefulness for our bountiful state.
We want to thank Pick Tn, the TN Dept of Agriculture, and the Wilson County Fair for hosting us and a spectacular evening under the Fiddlers Grove Pavillion. The first of many dinners at the fair!
