For 22 years, Nashville’s big-hearted restaurant community has been investing time, energy and lots of money to end the HIV epidemic in Middle Tennessee. Through the annual Dining Out for Life fundraiser, participating restaurants donate a portion of a day’s proceeds to Nashville CARES, a nonprofit that serves more than 50,000 people statewide with education, free and confidential HIV testing, and a broad range of comprehensive services to individuals who are at risk for or living with HIV. Since the event’s inception restaurants have contributed $1.8 million to Nashville CARES.

On May 8, more than 30 Nashville restaurants, led by celebrity chefs Star Maye, Arnold Myint and David Andrews, participated in Dining Out for Life. While the majority of participants directed 30% of the day’s proceeds to the event, several leaders raised the bar to 75% (International Market, Fenwick’s 300, Fleet Street Pub and Maher Fawaz’s restaurants Santo, Epice, Kalamatas and Lola). Meanwhile, both Lipstick Lounge and D’Andrews Bakery donated 100% of a day’s proceeds to Nashville CARES.

We’re already looking forward to this tradition next year, but in the meantime, several restaurants were kind enough to share recipes. We’ll think of their generous community leadership as we try to re-create their kitchen magic at home.
