Five Sunday Dinners
Is anything more comforting than a Sunday meal, enjoyed among family and dear friends? As I child, we had Sunday dinner at my grandparents' house in rural Louisiana, where all offerings were grown, harvested, and prepared within a stone's throw of the backdoor. Blackeyed peas, venison, my Meme's yellow squash cornbread, and banana pudding were always on the menu, and most of us succumbed to an afternoon nap shortly after the feast. Now grown and living far from my Louisiana roots, Sunday meals with family are shared less frequently but carry even more significance and nostalgia. The beauty of sharing a meal, prepared with love by the ones you love most, is one of life's finest pleasures. Afterall life happens over food, and all is meant to be savored.
