LIVING OFF THE LAND, OR TRYING TO…

When we started this issue we thought it would be fairly simple. Feature some folks with gardens, a few with bees and throw in some chickens. But an intricate web it turned out to be. Beekeepers came out of the, um, hives when we did a call out on Instagram and Facebook. And beekeepers typically have chickens, too, as well as gardens. So our story on backyard beekeepers, ran into our story on gardeners, which ran into our story on homesteaders. The bottomline: everyone is trying to live off the land in their own way. And loving every minute of it.

But what would Edible be without recipes? We have some of those, too, including a Marinated Cucumber-Peach Salad from The Edible Kitchen that has become a summer standby for us. Plus a Blueberry Pecan Coffee Cake that is nothing short of perfection, and some honey recipes too.

So grab a chair in the breeze, get a drink (we like a refreshing Chicken Scratch lager from Little Harpeth on a hot day) and read all about the birds and the bees, and yes, how it’s very much a thing called love in 2016. At least in Nashville.
