Nashville-native Sarah Bush is The Hermitage Hotel’s Farmer at the Garden at Glen Leven Farms. Sarah grew up on a horse farm just outside of Nashville, where she has fond memories of caring for chickens, canning tomatoes, pickling garden vegetables. She earned a degree in History and Art from Maryville College, but her firm roots in farming and agriculture and her exuberance for urban living brought her back to the farm. After working with renowned seed-saver John Coykendall in the heirloom garden at Blackberry Farmstead, Sarah found her way to Glen Leven Farms, ignited with passion for tending plants and soil.

Spanning over two acres, Glen Leven Farms touts a beautiful heirloom period garden, housing such crops as kale, beets, carrots, turnips, thyme, basil, pumpkin, and flowers, all of which are used for the seasonal cuisine at Capitol Grille and Oak Bar. Glen Leven Farm is located just 15 minutes from the hotel and is owned by The Land Trust for Tennessee.

The Land Trust for Tennessee is a nonprofit land conservation organization founded in 1999 by a group of citizens who were concerned over the conservation of farmer’s lands, animal’s habitats, historic landscapes, and scenic trails. With The Hermitage Hotel’s constant commitment to the preservation of local heritage and conservation and protection of natural landscapes, their work with The Land Trust for Tennessee is a match made in heaven. Since their partnership began, The Hermitage Hotel has raised almost $1,000,000 to directly support the conservation of over 85,000 acres of land.

Located in the heart of Downtown Nashville, The Hermitage Hotel is not only Tennessee’s only Forbes Five Star hotel, it proudly represents a rich history within its walls while preserving the history of the lands around it.
