How We Met
We met at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner.

The Wedding
We got married at the Barn at Sycamore Farms in Arrington, TN. We had a very small ceremony months in advance, but we wanted a ceremony for our large family and friends that combined our two cultures, and this was a perfect location.

Biggest Splurge
The venue and our shoes. We both wore Christian Louboutins!

Attire
All of the traditional wedding attire (35 outfits) came from Nigeria. These designs were created to reference how kings and queens dressed in the Yaruba ethnicity. The coral jewelry Mide and I wore is also symbolic of royalty. Bunmi, the owner of Beth Deluxe Events made all of the alterations and coordinated everything for the traditional Nigerian part of the wedding.

The Food
We served a traditional Nigerian or Yaruba menu including such delicacies as stew with beef, jollof rice, fried rice, egusi soup, pounded yam, and diced fried plantains. Mide and I worked together on the menu with Nico’s Lounge, who specializes in West African food. I made sure the food wasn’t too spicy for our American guests.

Favorite Moment
We emphasized my Christian roots with a foot washing ceremony and communion. Mide is Nigerian, so we changed outfits during the reception and celebrated a shorter but traditional Yoruba wedding full of color and dancing. Also, Mide’s mother passed away in 2019 so for the mother-son dance, he invited all mothers in attendance to join him on the dance floor in remembrance of his own beloved mother.
