The remains of the Bibimbap at Galbiya

One of the last things you expect to find in Springfield, Tennessee is top-notch Korean cuisine. But find it, we did. While galavanting around the town on a cold and blustery Saturday, I felt a familiar craving sneaking up on me. I needed something spicy, complex, and soul warming. So, after a rigorous Google search (they maintain a 5 star rating with over 150 reviews!), I stumbled upon Galbiya, a Korean joint located smack dab in the middle of a strip mall.

Unassuming at best, the restaurant on the surface is basically just four white walls (no TVs and very minimal decoration), but the dishes being simmered, and stewed behind that chef’s window are fit for Valhalla. Yukgaejang (spicy beef stew), Bibimbap (rice and tofu bowl), banchan (various side dishes), and a curiously delicious corn and barley tea were served, and hands down it was one of the more delicious Korean meals I have had in (or out) of Nashville. Incredible price point, thoughtful service and flavor-packed food that is obviously cooked with love and a lot of know-how.

Alcohol is not offered, but there is a really low-key pool bar called Backroads that is located just in front of the restaurant. Backroads has Guinness on tap and if you know me then you know that’s all it takes to become my favorite drinking hole. If you find yourself  wandering through Springfield with a hankering for something on the verge of perfection, do yourself a favor and stop by Galbiya. Bet you can’t give it less than 5 stars!
