Smooth TC Craft Tequila
The TC Craft Tequila sign hangs in the window of an old building on the corner of 46th and Charlotte Pike. Quietly and without much fanfare or lights. I passed it most every day. So one day I walked in. That's how I discovered the delightful small batch, Nasvhille owned brand, TC Craft Tequila. Fast forward 6 months and we're sitting at our dining room table doing a virtual tasting with Chad (in his dining room), one of the owners. It's March 30, week 2 of the COVID lockdown.
Their story begins with two brothers from Nashville and a master distiller from Jalisco who had a simple goal—to create the world’s best craft tequila. We haven't tasted every tequila in the world, but of what we have tasted, TC Craft stands out. It's our new go-to sipping drink in place of whiskey, which is exactly what they set out to do, produce a tequila that was smooth and rich, worlds above that consumed in large quantities on spring break. What makes TC Craft different? Brothers Chad and Todd Botorff wanted to make the real thing (real "tequila" must be made in Jalisco, Mexico) but with a Nashville style. Enter charred Tennessee White-Oak Whiskey barrels, which are used to age the Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, and Extra Anejo varieties for 1, 3, and 9 years respectively.
For the process, they use only 9 year 100% blue weber agave that is grown in the volcanic, red rich soil of the highlands of Jalisco. It is grown with no chemical herbicides or pesticides. They use pure, cool, highland water. Only natural (no industrial) yeast from the agave plant. It is small batch distilled and with the quality of ingredients on the front end, there is no need to over-distill it, leaving the perfect hint of citrus.
Back to our virtual tasting, we had all four varieties in front of us and like most tastings, poured them into small cups and swirled, tasted and tasted some more. TC Craft Tequila is extremely versatile and one of the things Chad wanted to get across was how their brand of tequila can elevate certain drinks. So, they also dropped off a ball jar of Maragaritas. Delicious. And in a Bloody Maria as well. Check out some of their drinks here.
We love discovering new drinks and especially ones with a local story. For some of the finest tequila around, try TC Craft, and support local too.
