Plan a night out at Present Tense’s new location. Previously below Placemakr Hotel on Hart
Street, Present Tense closed at the end of July 2025 and will reopen at 509 Houston Street on
March 6th, 2026 in Wedgewood Houston. The izakaya style restaurant includes a natural wine
bar with Junmai sakes and a tight cocktail list to accompany the menu.
The 40-seat space includes a patio perfect for the warmer months ahead. The minimalist design
of the restaurant extends to the 12-dish menu available a la carte or as an $88 per person
omakase. Returning favorites include seaweed toast with raw tuna, variations on Japanese sweet
potato and signature miso white sesame soft serve.
At Present Tense music isn’t just background noise, it thoughtfully guides the flow of each
evening. The high-fidelity sound system will be used for nightly vinyl spinning. The new
location is adjacent to Flamingo Cocktail Club. Guests move fluidly between spaces. Dinner
plans can lead into a night of live music at the club or patrons of Flamingo can settle into a late
table at Present Tense.
