Mama Bread is Now Open—Pastries, Coffee & More in Lockeland Springs

There’s a brand-new spot to check out in East Nashville’s Lockeland Springs neighborhood—they’re offering “bread and things that go with bread.” In other words, Mama Bread serves coffee drinks, pastries like morning buns, croissants, etc., and ample seating for the remote worker or friends simply catching up (aside from loaves of bread).

Making its debut on August 15 at 1600 Woodland St., the new coffee shop/bakery is open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Wednesday to Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday).

Over the weekend, when I popped my head in there, they had a few croissants on hand (butter, chocolate, and ham and cheese), but I opted for the morning bun, which had the perfect amount of orange zest. Sure, I had a mess of cinnamon and sugar all over my lap by the time I finished it, but it was totally worth it.

In addition to everything you’re able to consume on site, Mama Bread also has a small market within, offering baking ingredients, sealed juices for those on the run, fresh veggies, and other local, regional, and national crafts.

Each day they’re open, pastries are set out at 8 a.m. and bread is usually on display around 10 a.m. Pro tip: Get there early if you’re in the market for something specific because they’re selling out quickly on certain mornings.

“We only have one oven and aim to bake everything as fresh as possible and feed it to you pretty much out of the oven. To that end, the first few bakes are croissants and then bread after. If you want a croissant with your coffee, come early. If you want a loaf for lunch or dinner, come after 10. We promise it will be fresh and warm for you.”
