About an hour outside of Nashville in Shelbyville, Tenn. is a farm with cows, pigs, chickens and two adorable farmhands (Caleb and Noah). It’s Crossing Creeks Farm, a regenerative farm owned and operated by Elizabeth Stuart and her husband Shane, who bought the land in 2012 to begin their own healthy farming food journey. Eight years later it’s become a 25-acre farm producing sustainable food for them and their community. You can experience the farm in one of the two charming Adirondack cabins complete with a picnic pavilion, firepit and outdoor bathhouse (with toilets and hot showers). Each Adirondack cabin sleeps up to five and is fully screened for catching the nice farm breezes.
After family and friends began raving about their property during the 2020 lockdown, they created RV pads, a magical glamping campsite where the cabins reside. Elizabeth explains: “When we bought the land, our oldest was four and we found a beautiful little nook on the property that was our go-to spot. My husband gathered rocks and created the firepit used at the campsite, which was the first thing we ever built and is at the center of the farm. Later, we added structures and barns, the store and cabins, but the firepit remains the grounding feature of our farming adventure. We love that families and visitors gather around it to make memories.”
Glamping doesn’t mean hotdogs around the fire, but you can order home-cooked dishes from their café such as enchiladas or chili. Want some activity? They have private walking trails, a private dog park, horseback riding lessons and farm tours, which teach all about their regenerative practices. The property is located about 10 minutes from Bell Buckle, a great small Southern town you can visit during your stay, and Nearest Green Distillery is up the road too.
Crossing Creeks Farm provides a peaceful and beautiful farm stay with the opportunity to learn the family’s farming practices. “Our goals are to continue producing the best food for our community and to reconnect people to the land and food,” says Elizabeth.
