Ashley + Graham

Ashley and Graham Gordon leaving their wedding, Ashley in the wedding suit her mamaw wore in 1949

The Wedding
We got married at Graham’s parents’ farmhouse in Christiana, TN. The farm has been in the family for 7 generations. There are acres of fenced rolling hills, a family graveyard, cows, barns, two large gardens, a greenhouse, and a babbling brook of a creek, which is where we got married. We hardly bought any flowers… all the gorgeous peonies used were lovingly cut from friends’ and the family’s own personal gardens and preserved in the refrigerator in tissue paper weeks before the wedding. And I got to show off my artistic side by designing and water coloring the invitations and hand addressing the envelopes with calligraphy.

Biggest Splurge
Hiring Justin Wright Photography! But it was totally worth it! Not only is he obviously super talented, but he was a kind, calming, and creative presence throughout our day.

Through the Generations
My wedding dress was reconfigured and resewn by my wonderfully artistic seamstress of a mom who made it for her own wedding in 1982. She also altered my “getaway suit” which was my Mamaw’s (her mother’s) wedding suit worn in 1949. Our getaway car, “Oscar,” which had been in the family for years, wouldn’t start anymore, but Coleman Taylor Motors in Murfreesboro was somehow able to get it up and running right before the wedding (and they actually did it for free as a wedding present)!
