Affogato: The Ultimate Coffee Dessert

Affogato, a wonderful bit of magic from Italy, is traditionally vanilla ice cream “drowned” in a shot of hot espresso. This version uses a scoop of chocolate-peanut butter gelato which is a bit like gilding the lily, but fabulous.—Teresa Blackburn

    Ingredients

    • one shot of hot espresso
    • one to two scoops of your favorite chocolate-peanut butter or vanilla gelato or ice cream
    • Optional – Cocoa powder mixed with espresso powder for garnish

    Make espresso.

    Scoop gelato or ice cream into a short glass.

    Pour shot of espresso over gelato, dust with cocoa-espresso powder if desired. Eat with a spoon.
