Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will return to Nashville for a day of fundraisers benefitting nonprofit organization Tennessee Riverkeeper on April 19, 2018 in honor of Earth Day. The fundraising events include a luncheon at historic Woolworth on 5th and an evening event at Acme Feed & Seed. The mission of Tennessee Riverkeeper is to protect the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers from pollution by enforcing environmental laws and educating the public. David Whiteside, Kennedy’s godson, founded the nonprofit organization in 2009.

The luncheon at Woolworth on 5th will feature a panel discussion on the Civil Rights movement and the historic sit-ins that took place in the building, as well as speeches by Kennedy and Whiteside. The evening event at Acme Feed & Seed will feature speeches by Whiteside and Kennedy regarding the history of The Riverkeepers and focusing on God, fishing, and American values. Following the speeches, guests will enjoy performances by Emmylou Harris with Shawn Camp Band and Guthrie Trapp, as well as The Last Bandoleros.

David Whiteside founder of Tennessee Riverkeeper said: “Access to clean drinking water is a basic civil right. It is exciting to highlight these issues with RFK around Earth Day. Bobby has been my lifelong mentor, teaching me to look out for our fellow citizens and love our neighbors. As Christians, I believe we should be stewards of God’s creation and protect His living water. Some of the worst pollution that we discover is in poor and minority communities, fighting environmental injustices is a continuation of our civil rights legacy.”

RFK Jr. said: “It is exciting to support Tennessee Riverkeeper with Dolores and John M. Seigenthaler, John Esposito, Emmylou Harris, Janine and Ronnie Dunn, and so many great Americans in Nashville,” said Kennedy. “Fishing is America’s top recreational sport. Southerners catch and eat more fish than citizens of any other region. Clean, wholesome, toxin free rivers are their God-given and Constitutionally guaranteed right. Tennessee Riverkeeper’s job is to bring to justice any polluter who tramples that right.”

Whiteside added: “I am forever grateful to my lifelong friends in Music City for their compassion, philanthropy, and concern for America’s public waterways,” said Whiteside. “The Riverkeepers continue to grow stronger with such generous and creative support from Nashville.”

In addition to David Whiteside and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. members of the host committee include: John Esposito, Bill Freeman, Sarah Finklea and Stephen Glicken, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morales, Nissan of North America, Stephanie and Thomas O’Keefe, Josh Segall, Dolores Seigenthaler, John M. Seigenthaler, Peter Shapiro, and Guthrie Trapp.

These events are open to the public and ticket sales benefit Tennessee Riverkeeper, a nonprofit organization. Tickets to the luncheon at Woolworth on 5th include a buffet lunch and panel discussion. Tickets to the evening at Acme Feed & Seed include hors d’oeuvres, Riverkeeper education, and concert. Additionally, VIP tickets are available, which include a meet & greet with Robert F.
