It was sad the Kuchnia & Keller was only opened for 8 months. But a (semi) silver lining might be that Chef Tandy Wilson has taken over the space for his new (and only second to City House) venture Mop and Broom Mess Hall.

Set to open in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood Monday, September 10, the new concept, will feature a more casual approach similar to what the James Beard Award-winning chef likes to cook at home for friends and family.

“People respond well to authenticity and honesty, and that’s where we’re coming from with this restaurant,” says Wilson.

Wilson crafted the Mop / Broom menu without expectations or boundaries—the kind of food you eat with your hands. Standouts include a variety of House-made SausagesHush Puppy Battered Catfish and—Wilson’s favorite—the Barbecue Chicken, served by the quarter or half and inspired by his family barbecues growing up in Tennessee. Guests can also expect seasonal vegetable-centric dishes such as an Arugula Salad with crunchy quinoa, sunflower seeds and a green dragon dressing.  Desserts feature nostalgic treats like Chocolate Sheet Cake and Lemon Bars.

Mop / Broom Mess Hall will serve dinner Monday through Sunday, as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday. The menu highlights Americana cooking with Southern sensibilities— the way Wilson might be cooking on any given night at his own home—along with a full bar with a focus on custom sodas, mixed drinks, draft beers and an accessible wine list.

Located in the former Southern Broom & Mop Co warehouse a few blocks up from Wilson’s first restaurant, City House, the building now features a fresh look, a spacious and bright dining room with an expansive bar, a chef’s counter and an outdoor patio with a vivid new mural painted by Nashville-based artist Nathan Brown.
