The Nations is Nashville’s new and upcoming neighborhood. But so far it's still quiet and industrial and far from the bustle and crowds of 12th South and the Gulch. In other words, we love going there...for now.

The Nations Bar and Grill is the newest spot that was simply under construction one day and opened the next--no pomp or circumstance (or high falutin' opening to our knowledge).  The day we checked it out, it was full of a lunch crowd, mainly construction workers from down the road and a few groups of work colleagues. Cheap beer, good friends, and a penchant for silly and oddly named shooters is all you need to enjoy your time here. Aimed at being the local dive bar, the ambience includes brightly shining neon signs, an open kitchen, high top bar stools, and, of course, local spirits and beers. There’s something for everyone to drink and a spot for everyone to sit. To supplement is a well executed menu of bar snacks—including the usual wings and loaded tots—but vaunting salads, upscale sandwiches, and gumbo that’ll have you eating by the bucketful.

Bright colors and friendly staff makes this a warm inviting place you’ll want come back to again and again. Bucket list: drink your way through the shooters and then invent your own. Keep an eye out for The Nations block party this summer: a festival closing down 51st avenue to celebrate the community.
