Nashville's Coffee Soda is Matchless
We knew the coffee soda we had at Steadfast Coffee a couple years ago was going to be a hit. For something that doesn't sound too terrific (coffee + soda), it's fantastically good. And apparently the nation thinks so too, as the demand has increased. So much so that founder, Nathanael Mehrens, along with partners Sean Stewart and Jamie Cunningham have lauched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to ramp up production in their new cans.
For the geeks among us, here is how it's made: Using a novel, bespoke brewing process developed by the Matchless team and housed at Fat Bottom Brewery in Nashville, the Matchless coffee base is brewed hot in large batches to its optimal extraction rate, then flash-chilled, ensuring the coffee maintains the unique character and terroir of its origin. The rich coffee base is then lightly sweetened with all-natural demerara sugar and carbonated to effervescent perfection. For optimum enjoyment, Matchless Coffee Soda should be served over ice with an expressed citrus peel.
Invented by veteran barista, bartender and hospitality professional Nathanael Mehrens while working at CREMA in 2012, Matchless Coffee Soda was a near-immediate local sensation. Blessed by culinary luminaries like Erik Anderson, the opening executive chef of The Catbird Seat, the bright, refreshing beverage has garnered national accolades from the nation’s top baristas, chefs and journalists.
You can find the coffee soda on tap at Steadfast and Frothy Monkey locally, and top cafés and eateries across the Southeast.
Kudos boys, the coffee soda truly is Matchless.
