PICKIN’ FOR THE PARK

Head out to beautiful Warner Park the last Friday of every month from May through October to hear some fine local pickin’, jammin’, and fiddlin’. For over 18 years the friends of Warner Parks have put on the Full Moon Pickin’ Parties at the Warner Park Equestrian Center. This year, go hungry, as you’ll find a fine lineup of food trucks to accompany the beer and banjos, including Hoss’ Loaded Burgers, Yayo’s OMG, Puckett’s Trolley, and S’More Love Bakery. See ya there. warnerparks.org

GARDEN TIME–GET YOUR COMPOST

• For lawns: Lawns can look great without chemicals. Aerate your lawns, then apply 1/4 – 1/2 inch of compost and gently rake into existing soil. Reseed and water as usual.

• For vegetable or flower gardens: Apply 1 – 3 inches of compost and rototill or mix into existing soil.

The Compost Company in Ashland City turns food waste from all across the city into rich compost. Pick up or delivery. Find them at compostcompany.com.

DIRT ACADEMY—NINA SHIRLEY

Need help in the garden? Don’t know a perennial from an annual?

Enter The Dirt Academy, an online gardening course and community to get your garden started and successful. It’s the brainchild of Nina Shirley, who has been growing food at home and on local farms for years. She’s not only about good food, but time spent outside, and the peace that comes with that.

The Dirt Academy is a simple way to be confident that your Spring garden project won’t be a waste of time or money and that it’ll have an abundance of produce to share with your neighbors. Through a series of videos you’ll learn how to customize your garden planning, and about garden resources and secrets Nina has learned along the way. We’ll say Amen to that.

To start go to thedirtacademy.com. Lifetime access is $97.
