Thursday August 24th is National Waffle Day

Ah, the waffle. For me most of my waffle moments have happened at the Waffle House. First with my husband on Sunday mornings, now with my 17-year-old son on Sunday mornings, just in a different town. This is the wonderful thing about The Waffle House—it’s ubiquity. Sure there was the Egg-o Frozen Waffle phase when the kids were little, but that has passed. Belgian waffles had my heart for a bit, with the arrival of a waffle food truck at the Nashville Farmers’ Market about 5 years ago—they were a thing of beauty. But as quickly as the truck appeared it disappeared. That was all before the chicken and waffle craze, which is honestly my least favorite waffle iteration. I’m a sweets girl and love waffles for breakfast with pecans, butter and real maple syrup. Nonetheless I feel that my best waffle phase may be yet to come. I have been eyeing my mom’s 1950’s waffle iron that is sitting in a closet. Think it’s time for that puppy to come out.
In the meantime, here are a few waffle stats, four great waffle picks from around town and a waffle recipe from BLVD Nasvhille.

- 8 in 10 Americans love waffles.
